Prep cross country: Marin Academy's Reinhart, Branson's Maxwell earn section titlesPublished by
By Tim Menicutch HAYWARD — With about 100 meters remaining in Saturday's North Coast Section Division V boys cross country championship race at Hayward High, Marin Academy junior Trevor Reinhart glanced up at the overhead timer above the finish line. Reinhart liked what he saw. And he ran faster. Then he really liked what he saw. Reinhart's time of 14 minutes, 43.8 seconds was the third-fastest time in the history of the NCS finals at this course and easily the fastest time ever recorded by a D-V runner, eclipsing the old mark by 32 seconds. "I saw my time near the end of the race and said to myself, 'OK, time to go as fast as I can,'" said Reinhart, a favorite to repeat as D-V champ at the state finals in Fresno on Saturday after defending his section title. "It's going to take a while for this one to sink in." Read the full article at: www.marinij.com
